For centuries people from all walks of life around the world have used apron patterns to make a great fun product to protect their skin, perfect to keep clean clothes and ultimately to protect their health. It has been said that there are even records that go back beyond the Bible which mention aprons being used, essentially what they do is protect. The beloved home apron used around the house by a budding kitchen chef is of course the most common with the cotton, cooking and cleaning model but there are some occupations that would not be the same without an apron, such as butchers, carpenters, waitress aprons, farriers and welders just to name a few.

There was quite a revival in the 1940s and 1950s where society embraced the kitchen apron with enthusiasm, there are many old films that depict the housewife diligently working in the kitchen removing food from the oven with a feminine apron to protect her clothing. Today´s aprons are not as flamboyant as those times but nevertheless they do have style.

The style these days tends to be more of a humorous nature with practical undertones, they tend to be more fun such as having cartoon characters or messages emblazoned on them, they tend to reflect the personality of the wearer. You may love the vintage apron patterns available in great easily found fabric like cotton, perfect for fancy dress parties.

Aprons tend to commonly be made from sturdy cotton fabric, lightweight fabrics did not tend to be used. As they are normally quite easy to make a lot of people will purchase an apron pattern and have a try at making one themselves.

This is where the creative side of the maker can be utilized with gusto and flair in their project, the choice of colors and patterns are almost limitless but the design tends to be very similar. They make a wonderful fun gift for both men and women and can be designed to the lucky recipients personality and taste.

The humble apron has managed to attain a type of novelty status, they are commonly worn by men while cooking the family barbecue food. There is a kind of image that comes to mind when the American male is seen in these circumstances which everyone loves, where would a chef be without the apron. A French maid apron has an entirely different image to a radiographer´s protective apron.

It is unlikely that the apron will change much from the way it is now other than new different materials and fabric, messages and slight alterations to the style essentially they need to be able to allow you to work freely and protect your clothing at the same time, this would make the design set fairly universal so I would imagine that our children's children will still be wearing an apron similar to the one we are all familiar with these days, and that is a most heartwarming thought.
