Aprons are not something very new. It finds its origin in the 19th century when the maids were the only people who wore it. It was also worn by the middle class or poor women who could not afford the luxury of an extensive wardrobe. Moreover an apron saved them the trouble of washing an entire dress as it was more convenient to wash a small piece of food stained cloth as compared to an elaborate dress. Gradually apron started entering the kitchens of the elite and this brought about a revolution in the use of aprons. The apron more than being a necessity has become a style statement for generation next.
